The Tars receive recognition for excellent academic achievement for the 2017-18 academic year.
Rollins’ 2017-18 women’s soccer team recently earned a College Team Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches, the world’s largest soccer-coach organization. The Tars posted a combined 3.54 GPA for the 2017-18 school year.
The Team Academic Award was created to recognize student-athletes’ commitment to excellence in the classroom. To be eligible, the nominated program must be a current member of United Soccer Coaches College Services, and all players on the roster must be included in the calculation of the team GPA.
Rollins’ 3.54 GPA was the second highest in the Sunshine State Conference. The women’s soccer team has won the College Team Academic Award 10 times in the past 11 years, and Rollins was one of 198 schools where both men’s and women’s teams were honored.
“Rollins is committed to the entire student-athlete experience, which has been recognized by our peers and competitors,” says Pennie Parker, Rollins’ director of athletics. “I am proud of our student-athletes and coaches for their efforts both in the classroom and on the field. These awards highlight our commitment to educating the whole student-athlete and providing the premier academic and athletic experience.”
Rollins has a long history of athletic and academic excellence. Rollins’ 23 varsity sports teams have won 23 national championships and 91 Sunshine State Conference Championships, and the College has earned the Division II President’s Award for Academic Excellence for seven consecutive years. Rollins student-athletes have posted a cumulative GPA above 3.0 for more than 30 straight semesters.
