Adis Vila ’74 has recently been selected by Hispanic Executive as one its Leading Latinas for 2018. Over the past 35 years, Vila has built a career on leading and developing diverse talent. From federal and state government work to higher-education positions to private-sector leadership, Vila has always stressed the importance of diversity and helped open doors for women and minorities.
“I am honored to have been selected by Hispanic Executive as one of its Leading Latinas,” says Vila. “At a time when Latinos—and Latinas, in particular—are gravely underrepresented on corporate boards of directors, I hope that my selection will encourage CEOs and chairs of nominating and governance committees on corporate boards to examine the depth and breadth of experience among Latina executives. I have invested in my preparation for corporate board service, achieving UCLA’s Certified Director desgination and the National Association of Corporate Boards’ highest designation of Board Leadership Fellow. I trust that the recognition by Hispanic Executive underlines my interest, preparation, and passion for corporate board service.”
From working for Florida’s Department of Administration to serving as assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Vila has worked to implement flexible working hours for working mothers and secure a child-care center for employees. In her current role as president and founder of Vila & Associates, this Leading Latina continues her work consulting on organizational culture, leadership, and diversity, believing that Latinas will be instrumental in leading the business opportunities of the future.
