Stewart ’20 and Strom publish interactive maps of historic Hannibal Square

Margaret Stewart ’20, a history and theatre double major, and history professor Claire Strom have published two digital interactive maps of Hannibal Square that offer insight into the racial and ownership profiles of this predominantly African-American neighborhood of Winter Park. The project spans the decade between 1930 and 1940.

The maps are an extention of the work Stewart and Strom began in summer 2019 as part of Rollins’ Student-Faculty Collaborative Scholarship Program. Since then, the duo has presented their findings at the Florida Conference of Historians and submitted a version to Florida Historical Quarterly for publication.
