Stewart and Strom present at Florida Conference of Historians

History and theatre double major Margaret Stewart ’20 recently presented the results of her research project through Rollins’ Student-Faculty Collaborative Scholarship Program at the Florida Conference of Historians in Lake City, Florida.

Over summer 2019, Stewart worked alongside history professor Claire Strom to study the demographic changes in the African-American population of Winter Park’s Hannibal Square neighborhood between 1920 and 1940. The paper they presented was entitled “Farmers to Chauffeurs: African American Employment during the Interwar Years in Hannibal Square, Florida.”

The duo will submit an extended version of their research to Florida Historical Quarterly for publication.
