Stewart Parker ’02 has been recognized as Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year for his contributions to his students at the Winter Park Ninth Grade Center. According to county leaders, the award “honors the contributions of outstanding classroom teachers who demonstrate a superior capacity to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities.”
Students in Parker’s Advanced Placement Human Geography class continually score above the district, state, and national average. In addition to helping his students strive for academic success, Parker says he wants them to leave his class “transformed.” “[I want them] to have a larger worldview, to appreciate their place in life more, and to be global citizens,” he said in an OCPS press release.
Parker will go on to represent Orange County at the state level during this year’s Florida Teacher of the Year awards, which will name a statewide winner in August.
