Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) recognized Rollins students Alexa Hardrick ’17 and Lexi Tomkunas ’17 as top volunteers at its annual Jewels of OCPS event on April 28 at SeaWorld.
Hardrick won the district-wide Youth Volunteer Award for her service at Fern Creek Elementary School. According to OCPS, Hardrick has become an invaluable asset to the school over the past three years. Each week, she prepares and delivers weekend snack packs to deserving students. She also manages the distribution of clothing, helps students select free books, and recruits other Rollins students as volunteers.
Tomkunas won a Youth Volunteer Award in OCPS’ North Learning Community for her service at Fern Creek. For two years, she has volunteered on numerous projects, including book and clothing distribution, weekend snack pack preparation and delivery, and after-school programs. She also works with students on math and reading and launched a community service program that gives Fern Creek students the experience of serving others.
