Adrianne Benso, assistant director of residential life and explorations, received the 2017 Thaddeus Seymour Staff Award for Community Engagement during Rollins’ Annual Staff Awards Celebration on Friday, May 26.
Named for the College’s 12th president, the annual award was established in 2006 as a means of recognizing Rollins staff members for sustainable and demonstrated service in local and global communities.
During her more than 10 years in the Rollins community, Benso has been a student, graduate student, graduate assistant, staff member, advisor, and friend.
“When we think about champions building community at Rollins she’s top of mind,” one of Benso’s colleagues shared. “She’s Thad-like in her ability to honor humanity in every moment by making you feel like you matter. She inspires and encourages others to shine. Like Thad, she is a great storyteller and teacher. She is artistic and creative. She has a way about her that makes you want to be a better person. Her work with students is inspiring. She has participated with students in countless service and community engagement experiences, including weeklong trips working in education, affordable housing, and the environment. Service is the center of her life and her years of dedication to Rollins are truly noteworthy.”
A $500 donation will be made in Benso’s honor to the community organization of her choice to further encourage her efforts in citizenship and leadership. In addition, she will be invited to direct one of this year’s SummerSERVE projects in partnership with the Center for Leadership & Community Engagement. Benso also received a Service Excellence gold coin.
