The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park set record ticket sales for its 2015-16 season, which ended in April. New community-focused programming, an additional A Classic Christmas performance, and the commission of a new piece, Music, Awake! from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec and writer Terry Teachout drove these trends.
In addition to audiences from across Florida, music-lovers from 32 states and Puerto Rico have come to Winter Park to attend programs in the past year, as well as Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Serbia, South Africa, and Wales.
2015-16 marks the third consecutive season of ticket sales increases for the Society, the Central Florida region’s oldest performing arts organization. For the second year in a row, total venue capacity has exceeded 90 percent of available seats, with strong subscription sales and loyal audiences.
“We are pleased to be serving more and more of the community with diverse programming,” said Elizabeth Gwinn, the Society’s executive director. “Our continued growth over the past few seasons demonstrates the appetite for world class choral, orchestral, and chamber music performances in Central Florida, and an embrace of the musical traditions that have been a cornerstone of cultural life here for over 80 years.”
New programming such as Bach @ The Alfond and Bach & Beer have brought the nationally-recognized choir and orchestra out of the concert hall for intimate community engagements. The ever-popular Christmas in the Park program drew thousands of listeners to Winter Park’s Central Park to kick off the holiday season. The Venezuelan piece Cantata Criolla, performed in Spanish with Venezuelan soloists, and the appearance of the world-famous Los Romeros Guitar Quartet encouraged to new audiences to experience a Bach Festival performance.
“Community partnerships with institutions like Rollins College, the Winter Park business community, arts and cultural organizations throughout the region and diverse community leaders are key to our success,” Gwinn said.
The Bach Festival Society has announced its 2016-17 season and tickets will be on sale over the summer.
