Newcomb reviews Jim Tankersley’s book for The Washington Post

Anthropology professor Rachel Newcomb’s latest review for The Washington Post examines a timely topic: the rise of America’s middle class.

In her examination of Jim Tankersley’s new book, The Riches of the Land: The Untold, True Story of America’s Middle Class, Newcomb notes that the postwar economic boom of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s wasn’t restricted only to white males—Black Americans, women, and immigrants all made significant gains in prosperity during that time. Yet over the past 30 years, the middle class has seen a decline in minority wealth.
