Maskivker Publishes Article in Critical Review

Associate Professor of Political Science Julia Maskivker published “An Epistemic Justification for the Duty to Vote” in Critical Review: A Journal of Politics and Society

Maskivker argues that voting with care and information is required by reasons of justice and says that the vote as an important contribution to the collective effort of good governance that we are all required to make under normal circumstances. The article also deals with issues related to voter ignorance—a problem she identifies in contemporary democracies.

The article comes after her publication of an opinion piece in The Washington Post, where she argues that being a Good Samaritan requires a person to vote with information and a sense of the common good.
