Gerchman receives ACS grant to create dance consortium

Associate Professor and Director of Dance Robin Gerchman—along with colleagues from Washington and Lee University, Davidson College, University of Richmond, Spelman College, and Sewanee: The University of the South—have received a grant from the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) that will create a new model for shared teaching among the institutions’ dance departments.

The project will allow these faculty to share specialized knowledge and resources and create new, impactful learning experiences for students across the consortium through specialty-specific master classes, lectures, and workshops. Using the prolific and highly expressive art form of dance, the project aims to explore and express themes of diversity, interconnectedness, and inclusive education in creative and profound new ways.

Gerchman—whose teaching and research focuses on the interconnectivity of movement with multiple disciplines, aesthetics, criticism, historical, and cross-cultural perspectives—will lead the project at Rollins.
