Brown publishes essay in Literary Hub

English professor Victoria Brown recently published an essay in Apogee, a journal of art and literature that focuses on the politics of identity. The piece, published in Apogee under the title “The New Normals,” was selected for republication in Literary Hub, an online literary space that publishes the best of the literary web daily in the form of personal and critical essays, book excerpts, news, and interviews.

The layered essay, republished under the title “The Failure to Protect Our Children Where They Need it Most,” explores the dynamics of dealing with the police in an era marked by brutality and violence, the criminalization of children where we expect them to be safe, and the ever-present specter of American gun violence.

Brown specializes in fiction, creative nonfiction, and transnational literature with a focus on contemporary Caribbean writers and post-colonial theory.
