Rollins partners with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida to end hunger in the community.
This month, Rollins kicked off the annual Feed the Need campaign to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger in our local community. As the number of people seeking food assistance in our community continues to rise, support is more critical than ever. In Central Florida alone, 498,000 people are in need of food assistance.
On November 4, Rollins began raising funds for Second Harvest with the Sodexo Chef’s Challenge cook-off during the Family Weekend Block Party. Community members created meal packs for children who need nutritious meals outside of school hours. One in four children in Florida now lives below the federal poverty level, making the need to fight hunger greater than ever.
Rollins has set a goal to raise $10,000 to provide 40,000 meals for our neighbors this November. The campaign will end on November 29.
How to participate and contribute
The College’s next Feed the Need fundraising event will be on Wednesday, November 16 in the Cornell Campus Center Marketplace. Rollins community members are invited to purchase a soup lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Second Harvest.
Contributions can be made online. Additionally, community members can purchase Rollins Feed the Need raffle tickets at the C-Store and Dave’s Boathouse until November 28 for a chance to win an iPad Pro. The winner will be announced on November 29.
This year’s campaign also has a text to donate initiative to make it easy for people to donate using smart phones. A $10 donation can provide 40 meals for families, children, and seniors. Donors can text the word NEED to 41444 to set an amount of their choice.
