The energy of a new exhibition at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum spills onto campus.
With the help of a stilt-walking trio and dozens of Rollins community members, the vibrant creations of artist Laura Anderson Barbata came to life in all their funky glory in a performance up and down Holt Avenue last Thursday, February 18.
Led by three elaborately costumed stilt walkers from the Brooklyn Jumbies, Rollins students, faculty, and friends stomped, shimmied, and shook their way through the heart of campus to the beat of steel drums and bongos.
The raucous celebration preceded an artist talk with Barbata at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum (CFAM). Transcommunality: Laura Anderson Barbata, Collaboration Beyond Borders, which documents the New York-based artist’s work and her decade-long project with stilt-walking communities in Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, and Brooklyn, runs through April 10 at CFAM.
