Annie Russell Theatre Announces 83rd Season

Rollins College’s Annie Russell Theatre explores ‘taboo’ topics in its 83rd season beginning this September.

The Annie Russell Theatre—the longest running theatre in Central Florida—will begin its 83rd season on September 25. This year’s lineup of musicals and plays carries themes that are often socially difficult to discuss, from marijuana to religion and infertility to second marriages.

Hello, Dolly! will be co-produced by the Department of Theatre & Dance and the Department of Music.

“It is a true joy to formally collaborate with talented colleagues and students from the Department of Music on Hello Dolly!” says the producing director David Charles. “This is our first co-production in several decades, and we’re confident that this will become the first of many. Reaching across disciplines in this way creatively models the spirit and opportunities inherent in a liberal arts environment such as Rollins,” says Charles, who also chairs the Department of Theatre & Dance.

The new season marks the return of guest director John Christopher Jones, who directed Picasso at the Lapin Agile at the Annie Russell in 2012. Hailing from New York City, Jones brings 50 years of experience as an actor, director, translator and adapter.

Subscription packages are $65, with discounts available for seniors, students, and Rollins alumni.  Purchase a subscription online or call the box office at 407-646-2145.

Additional free season offerings are provided by the student-produced and student-directed Second Stage Series, performed in the Fred Stone Theatre. The season’s Second Stage Series features all female playwrights and directors.
