“We are so happy to have three of our student-athletes on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.  The criteria of a 3.5 cumulative GPA, as well as a higher percentage of intercollegiate participation, makes it quite a select group,” said head women’s golf coach Julie Garner.

Marcsdottir, a native of Onsala, Sweden, was one of four valedictorians in Rollins’ Class of 2013, graduating with a perfect 4.0.  On the links, she posted a 78.8 stroke average in 24 rounds played, to go along with three top-20 finishes.

Clara Teixeira missed out on half of the Tars’ fall schedule as she represented her home country of Brazil at the World Amateur Team Championships in Turkey.  She finished the season with a 76.9 stroke average with a low round of 72 at the 38th Annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational.

Kristen Garabedian finished the season with an 80.5 stroke average with a low round of 74 in her first tournament of the season at the Daytona State Lady Falcon Invitational.

“Elin’s status as a co-valedictorian of the Class of 2013 is yet another tremendous honor for her and our program.  We are proud of all of our student-athletes and these three are certainly all-stars in the classroom as well.  Their achievement shows our emphasis on hanging banners for life success, not just tournament victories,” added Garner.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are one of the most stringent in all of college athletics.  Recipients should meet a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and must have played in 66 percent of the team’s rounds.

The Rollins women’s golf team will open the 2013-14 season in the Lone Star State at the “Mo”morial hosted by Texas A&M University on Sept. 9-11.
