Rollins Director of Athletics Pennie Parker has been named the Under Armour Division II Athletics Director of the Year.
Parker will be receiving the award during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon on Saturday, June 15, at NACDA's 48th Annual Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida.
In 2006, Parker began her tenure as director of athletics at Rollins College and during that time the athletics program has undergone tremendous academic and athletics success, growth, and rebranding. Academic successes include 24 consecutive semesters of teams with a GPA over 3.0 and six valedictorians within the last six years. The Rollins class of 2013 featured three student-athlete valedictorians.
In 2012, Rollins athletics had its first recipient of the NCAA Elite 89 Award and its first two NCAA Postgraduate Scholars, among numerous other Academic All Americans and national and Sunshine State Conference scholar awards.
Rollins athletics accolades during Parker’s tenure include 20 conference titles, two national championships, two individual ITA national champions, and seven coaches who have received recognition as national or regional Coach of the Year honors.
Also under Parker’s leadership, the addition of men’s and women’s lacrosse has had an immediate impact nationally, with the women’s team advancing to the national semifinals in 2012, just the fifth year of the program. The Tars were in the Final Four again this past season.
Parker has overseen the rebranding of the athletics website, logo, mascot, and booster club. The recent re-launch of the booster club, the Anchor Club, was well received with several new members joining on the spot at the re-launch reception.
Parker serves or has served on several committees (institutional, conference, regional, and national). Nationally, Parker is very active in the D2 ADA, currently serving as 3rd Vice President/Secretary and is also the board liaison for the NCAA mentoring program.
